My name is Sara Windes and I excited to be the special education teacher at San Tan Learning Center. I have a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Southwestern College now Arizona Christian University and a Masters Degree in Special Education from Grand Canyon University.
I am an Arizona Native, I was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. I have been married for 10 years to my husband Chris and we have two kids-a daughter and a son. I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends. I am also an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan and enjoy watching games with my family.
I started my teaching career as a first grade teacher and taught in a regular education classroom for 7 years before becoming a special education teacher. I have taught kindergarten, first and second grades, and 8th grade science. I am Highly Qualified in Elementary Education and Cross Categorial Special Education. This is my fourth year as a special education teacher. I have experience working with students with a wide variety of disabilities.
I am the mother of a son with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Apraxia of Speech and Limb. He started out in a self contained program and with support, encouragement, and a committed teacher and therapists (speech and occupational therapists) he is now in the general education setting without support.
I believe that every child is capable of learning no matter what their disability is. There are a lot of famous people who despite their disabilities became successful people in life. As a teacher, it’s my job to teach them to be lifelong learners by using teaching techniques that are individualized to the particular student. I also have a passion for kids who do not meet the criteria for an individualized education plan but still benefit from small group instruction-at San Tan we have individualized learning plans that cater to all students not just one particular group.
