A few notes:

  • A new sign-up genius will be made for the month
of October within the next couple of weeks. Be on the look-out for the new sign
up and remember, if a spot is filled, just email me and we can set up a time in
which you’d like to come in. J
  • A new “level B” calendar will be emailed &
put up on our class webpage on Monday. This Thursday & Friday are
“freebies” meaning no level B homework!
  • Pattern assignments on Envision have been
posted. We are only going to be working with patterns for about a week. All
students seem to be understanding patterns very well! I can see how students do
on their envision quizzes and work; therefore, don’t feel like you have to
print them out and send them in.
  • I have a red, white & blue towel that was
left from the class party at Matteo’s house. Please let me know if this is your
towel! I have asked the students but they aren’t sure.
  • Our sight words have consisted of a, and, away,
I, in, is, it, run, said, and the. Please go over these words with your
student’s at home. Make sure they can spell them and write them neatly as well
    as recognize them.
  • WORDS THEIR WAY: We will begin our words their
way notebooks next week. I will be creating a “words their way” folder which
will be sent home for the week which has their spelling list inside as well as
directions which you can read to help your child with their words at home.
  • We are beginning Unit 2 in Reading. Throughout
this unit, we will be working with the topic of animals. This consists of
comprehension strategies with reading about different animals, exploring their
habitats, and building vocabulary.  I will be giving the students a
project on animals during this second unit. Details to come!

IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES:

September 12, 2011: Grandparent’s Day lunch! In honor of celebrating Grandparent’s Day, all grandparent’s are warmly invited to come attend lunch with their grand children. Kindergarten lunch is from 10:50-11:20.

September 14, 2011: Kindergarten 1/2 Day. The school day ends at 11:30 AM.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

September 6-9, 2011: Another successful week has passed. Our class did an amazing job dressing up for NFL day and celebrating fitness. We are fully getting into the groove of school and student’s have been doing a great job with staying focused and are always ready to learn!

A big thank you to those of you who have come into the classroom to volunteer! It’s great to have you and I know it gives you an idea as to what a day in Kindergarten is like. I look forward to having volunteers each and every week and you have all been such a great help to me!

August 28, 2011: What a great first couple of weeks it has been! We have been practicing our routines and procedures and are learning new things each and every day.

EnVision Math is going well!  We are already beginning lesson 8.7 on Monday! Remember, for homework, it is your choice whether you’d like to complete the guided practice, quizzes, or just complete the “learning” section of each chapter. You can print out the extra homework page if you wish. I will just be checking to make sure each student is doing something at home to reinforce what we are learning  in class. You can even extend the lesson on geometry by having your child find shapes anywhere you go. For example, if you go to the grocery store together, have your child count as many squares as they can find!

Next week, our class volunteers will start to come in to see how a day in the life of Kindergarten goes! I’m so excited to see such great parent involvement and participation!!! If there is a time in which I didn’t put up on the sign-up genius and you’d like to come in, please just send me an email and we can work that out!

A few extra notes:

  • Book boxes will be starting on Monday, August 29th.
  • Math-a-Minute will begin sometime within the next couple of weeks
  • I will be organizing a “Fun Friday” art activity each Friday and will need volunteers to help with that. I will keep you updated when I get the list complete!

August 14 2011: Wow! I can’t believe the first week of school has already passed us by! We have had a great first week and will have an even better second week!

The students are settling into the routine of our classroom. We have been starting off our mornings with calendar. Our circle calendar time is a time in which we reinforce the days of the week, months of the year, and also include some calendar math. I have introduced the students to our “estimation jar” in which they must guess how many marbles I have in the jar each week. This will be a weekly activity which will help students with numbers as well as their ability to make estimations.

This past week we have also been busy with our first benchmark tests. This test is the first one of the Kindergarten year and will show me where each child is in regards to their reading and phonics skills.

REMINDERS:

*Homework will begin this week! Each student will start off with the same homework until we meet for the ILP (individual learning plan) meeting in the middle of August. Homework for these upcoming weeks are based upon knowledge of the alphabet. I will post the homework page under the homework tab and further directions will be given on Monday!

*Please read your child’s “Nothing” book which was taken home on Friday. On the next page, write a response to your child. This is a great way in which you can show them that you are involved and interested in their work at school.

*Agendas are taken home each day. Please look at your child’s agenda and see what was learned in class for that day.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to email me! I hope you had a great weekend and I look forward to the second full week of school!

Ms. Lynne Ullrich :)
