Greetings Families,

Ever since we started our last Daily 5 Rotation with Work on Writing our kiddos have been writing like first graders.  We will be moving into more forms of writing like letters, lists, stories, etc…. We will use these forms during our science time as we will be learning about various inventors and their inventions. We read about Thomas Edison on Friday and wrote what we learned, drew a picture of his invention, and wrote what life would be like without his invention. We are starting on subtraction officially but have been inadvertently learning along with our addition topics. Please take note of our upcoming days off from school. Also, our Golf Tournament is quickly approaching. You will definitely see me in my golf cart greeting our golfers all day! If you can’t make it please donate to our Disney Themed Kindergarten Basket.

It is time for our annual spring parent survey.  I would like to encourage all families to take the time to complete the survey because the results help administration set improvement goals for next year.  The survey will be available online until April 20th at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9QD6BMR .

Please see visit our web-site, www.stlcgolf.com for registration in the Golf Tournament on April 21st.  If you are unable to golf, we have other opportunities to participate to support teachers through helping with the baskets for the silent auction.  Each grade is putting together themed gift baskets for a silent auction. Funds raised will go directly to our Growing Brilliance program, which helps fund the teachers and staff at San Tan Learning Center. The kiddos are very excited to help with this, so if each parent could donate anything related a classroom theme; we would appreciate it.

Kindergarten

Theme: Disney

This basket will be filled with magical treats. It’s a small world after all, so let’s use our imagination to fill this basket with gifts. Anything large or small to help complete a Disney-filled day will be fitting. It could be tickets to Disneyland, a gift certificate to The Disney store, anything to do with Mickey, Minnie and the rest of the wonderful Disney characters. Stuffed animals, magic wands, etc. would all be great donations! This basket could be filled with dreams to come true…

Sincerely,

Amanda Errington

Greetings Families,

I wanted to take this time to thank everyone for all the birthday wishes, homemade cards, gifts, and hugs! It was such a special birthday because of you and your children’s presence in my life.  We are back into our routines and will be adding word study back this week. I did assess students and a pleased at the direction they are moving. Your child’s group may change a day based on this progress. I wrote in almost everyone’s agenda today when their day is. This movement is due to all of your hard work with word study at home. Thank you! Please remember this Wednesday is a half day and dismissal is at 11:30am. We do have pictures on the Friday the 30th at 10:40a.m.

Here are some additional announcements in regards to our school:

Happy Sunday Families,

We have moved from weather to maps and boy are we having a BLAST! We still encounter weather vocabulary in our read aloud and love to read about weather.  Yet, as grown up kindergartners we are exploring maps of the universe, world, continents, states, etc… Don’t be surprised if your child isn’t drawing treasure maps very shortly. Please be sure to keep returning agendas, word study notebooks, and nothing books.  Registration packets for next year are due by February 29th.Please return permission slips to the PHX zoo ASAP.

Every week amazes me with our kiddos. They are really blossoming in our morning

Dear Families,

We’ve had a fabulous two weeks back to kindergarten.  We’ve talked about various types of weather, gotten back into reading rotations, word study is up and running, and we are so close to being  authors.  I hope you have been enjoying our daily morning routine of writing in our agendas like the big kids do. Please be sure to check these each night and send them back to school
each day. This goes for word study as well and the word study notebook. Thanks
for all of your support and work at home. Be sure to check out the math resources as I have found some great interactive games that can be played online or at home. Enjoy!

100 Days of Kindergarten!

It warms my heart to think that I have already spent 100 days with your children.
This Wednesday marks the 100th day of school and we will be doing a
few things to celebrate this milestone. On Wednesday, please send a plastic Ziploc bag of 100 items (in groups of 10; i.e. 10 pretzels, 10 cheerios, 10 fruit snacks, 10 pennies,
10 beads, etc… all the way to 100)
Please stick with our healthy, no nut policy for this project. This is perfect because we are learning about 100 and will be counting groups of 10 on Wednesday. With a new semester and tremendous growth in word study your child’s words and word study day may change. I will be emailing about this. Thank you for all of your support!

Welcome
Back!

It was so great to see all of my grown-up kindergartners today.  I really enjoyed our reunion hugs and was impressed by their motivation to get right to work. With the short week I am not planning on starting word study until next week. I will be assigning math starting with 10-1 on Wednesday so be on the lookout on the Pearson website. If you need a new log in and password please let me know. I am trying a new
schedule where I switched Math and Reading but am just using it on a trial basis to see how the kids do with it.

Happy Sunday Kindergarten Families! I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weekend in Arizona.  I wanted to highlight a few things starting with Halloween on Monday.  Here at San Tan we choose not to celebrate this with costumes or treats. Thank you for your cooperation with this.  Another point to highlight is the field trip on November 10th to the farm. The deadline for permission slips and payments is this Friday November 4, 2011. I have a lot of parents who have signed up for chaperones and I am limited to bringing 4 chaperones. I am just going to take the first four that turned in their permission slip and will be contacting them this week.  Thank you for your support and I hope we have another opportunity to go on a field trip.  I will include dates to remember below as well as the new word study schedule below.  Our new word study schedule has been working well so far in the classroom. If you have any comments about it at home please let me know. Thanks for everything!

We had a great week introducing habitats! The kids are super excited about learning about plants and animals in various habitats. We are going to start planting seeds this week and encourage anyone who has experience with gardening to please contact me. Thank you to those of you who have sent in literature connected to our content area of study. If you

Please be sure your child’s blue folder and notebook is back to

October 18, 2011

Greetings Kinder Families,

Welcome back! I was so impressed yesterday with our kindergartners. They remembered our expectations and routines and we had such a  fun day back together.  I want to highlight a few things in this email and will  send you my usual newsletter this evening.

Important notes:

  • This week is National Character Counts Week! Schools
nationally are celebrating teaching students good character and celebrating
their successes. Here at STLC we have done a tremendous job of integrating
Character Education into our culture and it’s time to celebrate this! Attached
is a letter that outlines what the week is all about.
  • We are celebrating Red Ribbon Drug Free Awareness Week
this week! Thursday is Red Ribbon Awareness Day on our campus, to have the students wear Red for the day.
  • Math homework has been assigned online for the week.
  • We are learning about life science this quarter and are in need of any newspaper
articles, magazines articles, books from the library that discuss or have
pictures of plants or animals and their habitats.
  • Permission slips to Vertuccio Farms went home yesterday in the green homework folder. Please fill this out and return as soon as possible.  The field trip is
scheduled for November 10th and the permission slip is due November
    4th .

I hope everyone had a fantastic fall break. This is going to be an exciting quarter and I look forward to working with our kids and you.
Thanks for all of your support!

PS. Please take a look at Coach’s PE webpage. She is in need
of equipment and has an equipment donation page.

September 26, 2011

Greetings Kindergarten Families,

I just wanted to update you about this week in this email.

Important Dates:

  • Wednesday September 28th – Half Day dismissal at 11:30am
  • Wednesday September 28th – please send blue word study folder and words back to school. Sending this home these past few weeks has been a trial run so if you are unsure about expectations, your child has lost their words already, please be patient as I am evaluating what is best for all involved.
  • Monday October 3rd- Community Helper Project Due- I’m sending a paper doll and a letter home tomorrow with this project. It is just a fun way to culminate our unit on roles and responsibilities in a community.  Students will choose community helpers like: policeman, firefighter, construction worker, teacher, etc… and they will decorate their paper doll however they wish. Please look in green homework folders for this project. This can be done in place of calendar assignments. Have fun with this.
  • This week and next week we are benchmark testing so please be sure students are at school.
  • Thursday October 6th and Friday October 7th – Parent Teacher Conferences. Please be on the lookout for the signup genius for these conferences. Remember if these times don’t work please contact me and I am more than willing to work with you.

I can’t wait to sit down with you and show you how much progress our kiddos have made in just ONE QUARTER! I LOVE  KINDERGARTEN! Thanks for everything.

Greetings Kinder Families,

I wanted to start by thanking those of you that attended our Words Their Way parent workshop. It was so nice to see my kinder parents in the audience. That brings me to my first topic, word study sorts and activities.

I will give students their weekly words on Wednesday as well as their new words. The blue folder and notebook will go home on Wednesday and come back the following Wednesday with the activities finished inside the notebook. I’m attaching the instructions for each day and have this page printed with example in your child’s blue folder.  This can take the place of the calendar activities.

As you will see in my weekly newsletter we have a few exciting events this week. On Friday, the Gilbert Fire Department is presenting to kindergarten about community helpers. Also, on Friday we will celebrate Grandparents Day with an Art activity versus the Grandparents Day Lunch on Monday.  If your child’s grandparents live far away please feel free to have a grand friend or yourself join your child for this activity.  Please be sure who ever comes for this event signs in at the front desk.

Thank you for your time. It’s going to be another fabulous week in kindergarten!

Sincerely,

Amanda Errington
